Ecological Monitoring of Penrhyn Estuary
Ecological monitoring has been conducted to assess the impact of the interception of groundwater during operation of the Groundwater Treatment Plant (GTP) and full scale hydraulic containment on the Penrhyn Estuary receiving environments. Specifically the monitoring program:
- reviews the current physio chemical conditions and the potential for changes in physio chemical conditions in and near Penrhyn Estuary
- reviews the predictions in the Environmental Impact Statement and the likelihood of changes to physio chemical parameters and ecological receptors
- monitors the physio chemical conditions in Penrhyn Estuary both before and during operation of the GTP and full scale hydraulic containment
- reviews the requirement for long term monitoring of full scale hydraulic containment
Orica's Environmental Protection Licence requires it to perform this monitoring for two years after the commencement of the GTP operation.
